The best reason to stay in Kinira is it's close proximity to Paradise beach, which many repeat visitors to Thassos believe is the best beach on the island! It's name sums it up! It is the closest you will get to a tropical paradise on Thassos island. It is hidden from the main road and approached by an unmade road which winds down the hillside through a dense pine forest, when you emerge from the forest the vista opens up and the white sands and aquamarine coloured sea present themselves. Kinira island is across a 1 kilometer stretch of blue sea. The beach is about 300 meters of white sand and uniquely the sea is often wavy, adding to the tropical effect! There are taverns and beach bars which offer the tourist services from morning to night. For the adventurous, the far end of the beach is used by naturists, the only place on Thassos where nudism is tolerated!
Golden beach is a short distance away, this beach stretches for nearly 3 kilometers and bridges the villages of Skala Potamia (Chrisi Akti) and Skala Panagia (Chrisi Ammoudia). Golden beach has everything! A huge selection of tavernas, bars, cafes, water sports, supermarkets, shops, sunbed and umbrella hire, and car, bicycle and scooter rentals. If you need a change from the beach, the villages of Potamia and Panagia are ideal places to find a shady corner to sit in and watch the world go by, or enjoy a 'real' taste of Thassos at one of the many traditional tavernas. All of this accompanied by the 'music' of the many streams and fountains. Potamia is also the home of the museum for the iconic sculptor, Potamia born, Vagis Museum – definitely worth a visit, it is next door to the church which is also worth visiting.
